First stop on the big journey, the land of the kanga-walla-hops. We landed in Sydney on Sunday night, since then we mainly lived as hermits giving Laurence a chance to recover, and time for Maree to go stir crazy, from the hectic experience of leaving the country.
Our first big outing was to go into Sydney on the bus (much faster then driving judging from the traffic we saw) and do a tour of the Sydney Opera House. An interesting experience and well worth the time.
We started composing this message whilst waiting for our tasting platter to arrive from the Sydney Opera House bar. It was 12:08pm and deemed acceptable to have a wine and cider.
The next day we had a couple of quite drinks with Jann for his birthday. As we all know, quite drinks, resulted in a half bottle of whisky later. It seems a good night had by all.
We completed a ‘little’ walk along the bay (all the way to Manly) that due to some creative mapping ended up being about 12km. Great views but a long walk in the sun.
Later that week we made a trip into the city to The White Rabbit Tea House. This was a gallery and a tea House. There were some incredible pieces of art in the gallery, perhaps the most striking was the tank made entirely from leather (like a hand bag). Due to the material, some of the parts kept their form and some drooped into the rest of the tank. After viewing the art, Maree got some tea (a princess tea – the flower bud opened as it heated up in the tea) and we ate some very tasty dumplings. The set up for the whole place was wonderful.
We also had a day with Eb (skiving off work for the afternoon). She drove us across town to see Bondi beach – which really wasn’t any better than little Dee Why beach, just more crowded. From there, we took a drive out of Sydney and down the coastal highway. A beautiful site, but a bit of a mission to get back from in traffic.
We have now got a travel SIM that will work around the world. Combined with that service is a Travel Log. This will automatically update with our locations and can be accessed here. You will need a friend access password to be able to see the full details, this is currently set to “hamilton”.
